  • NEXT MEETING

:::::BUILD PARTY UPDATE:::::
A reminder that the 3rd Build Day is this Sunday. If you plan on coming out, please email or phone Toi, so that she can monitor the workforce & make sure we have enough tasks for people.

Thank you to everyone who came out last Sunday! Great effort which ended up with enough of the wheel built for us to walk in it (thanks Toi for figuring that out), and go ass over tea kettle in! (thanks Chris for figuring that out)…

Huge props to our newest collaborator Ian MacKenzie aka Vision Weaver, who came out to document the epic day. He then swiftly put together this sweet video and also posted some stills. Check it out: http://playatime.net/help/build/

This week, we move forward with the wheel and base structure, begin the assembly of the tower, sort out the rollers for the wheel… We need drills w/ screw bits and circular saws, jig saws, measuring tapes, pencils or sharpies…if you can bring any of these things, great… Always remember safety first, you must have protective eye wear and foot wear!!!!! Work gloves are cheap and handy.

Please bring bevies and snacks, building can make you hungry and thirsty… See you Sunday at 12 NOON everyone…

Robert
Technical Producer

Do you like to take apart gadgets to see how they work? Were you building rockets at age 5? Does a tour of an ice cream manufacturing facility sound just as good as having ice cream? We are looking for geeky folks that are interested in the design of the cuckoo clock mechanism for Playa Time. The project could involve design and/or making of: large and small cogs, a clock with time based on movement of a human-scale hamster wheel, a mechanical or electrical cuckoo orca, and a mechanical or electrical water mister. If any or all of this sounds interesting or if you know someone who might be perfect, email Playa Time co-producer Megan at themcboo@gmail.com.

Subject: Playa Time: info on Bajjam and 4sightfoto.com link correction

:::::BAJJAM:::::
So many of us were thrilled to hear Bajjam play last Saturday night at Tea Time. Thanks again to ALL of the musicians and support crew who came out to play for an eager crowd! The band really added a unique and sought after element to the evening and we wanted to tell you a little more about WHO IS BAJJAM and how did they come about playing at our local BMV events?

BAJJAM – who play the ‘Sounds of the Dragon’s Fire’
Bajjam,  a band that plays improvisational funk/rock/jazz music totally created on the spur of the moment as the gig progresses. Put together by drummer Bodie MacNeill, who as the band’s core group member, had the idea of creating a band from his experience at BiTF last summer. The band has since played at Micropolis and now, at Tea Time, and aspires to perform at all of the local BMV events!

Using available musician friends who understand the theme and love to share their musical talents with Bajjam, the band evolves as the moment unfolds with every tune played, a new and unique musical exploration. Various rotating members come from the jazz, rock and classical music communities and we all have the common goal of getting you up and dancing and someday, Bajjam, will play on the Black Rock City playa. Past and present players have included, Joel Liman, Brian Ladrew, John Korsrud, Charlie Higgins, Radar Stelting, Marcus and James Takizawa, Tania G. and Simon Hunkin.

Look for BAJJAM, on Facebook and Myspace sites and also through Bodie, Joel and bass player Brian’s other band site for their jam band, The Jambassadors.

Subject: WOW Tea Time! Thank you from the BMV CORE Playa Time crew!!
To: bmvan chat <bmvan@yahoogroups.com>

THANK YOU for TEA TIME!
So, we’ve recovered fully (at least some of us), and the monies are all counted and on top of all the fun, after all expenses, we have we raised $800 bucks towards bringing PlayaTime to The Burn. Awesome!!!.

On behalf of the Producers and the entire BMV CORE team, we want to say thanks to everyone who came out to support the event! We shmoozed, we drank, we ate, we danced like crazy, we reminisced local events passed, and we DANCED. And we were the first to see the scale model of Playa Time, made by our Technical Producer, Robert!

Your gift to the “Playa Time” art project will help the BMV CORE team to build and transport this unique community art project to Burning Man this year. We hope you’ll be able to join us to see Playa Time standing along side all the other CORE projects brought by Regional groups from around the world, and to celebrate when it burns.

And massive gratitude to all of you who responded to our callout for volunteers, who came out to help setup and run the event.  From the folks who arrived early to setup the food/bevvies station, sound system, visuals and the event space; to those who volunteered their time to serve; to those who brought or donated items to sell; to the musicians and DJs for raising the energy to superb heights; to those who stayed late to mop the floors and pick up butts outside the event at 3am; and all the work that went into it in between.

We are a great community and WE KICK ASS!

Thanks for Vertumnus of 4SightFoto.com for taking some pics for us. See the Tea Time collection here.

And this is just the beginning…

  • We have build days happening regularly until we’re done. Details here.
  • Tomorrow night is a chance to participate in the first fundraising work party. Details here.
  • We’re working on a bigger community event & fundraiser for May or June. Details to come.

If you weren’t able to attend Tea Time, but would like to donate a few bucks, please click the Paypal link on our site: playatime.net

Your Playa Time team,
